Kari Metzger is a veteran performer and vocal coach in Vancouver, BC, specializing in male, female and mixed a cappella ensembles. She has coached individuals and groups across Western Canada and Washington State for over 8 years, helping each to use their natural voices to explore the artistic message of each song passionately and beautifully.
Kari has a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Western Washington University in Bellingham, and a graduate diploma in Business from Simon Fraser University. She is a Certified Director of Sweet Adelines International, and a member of the SAI Region 26 Education Faculty as a Vocal/Performance Coach.
Kari brings her unique enthusiasm and belief in each singer’s potential to every coaching session, and creates an atmosphere of excitement and energy that fosters positive growth. From vocal skill development to emotional connection with the music and artistry, Kari works to help each singer find his or her natural voice and then works with them to discover the artistry in the music and sing with inspiration throughout.
Kari is passionate about working with musical leaders on the development of their vocal coaching and analytical listening skills. From providing effective feedback on tape evaluations, to working in ‘real time’ with singers both in choral situations and as individuals, she gives each musical leader specific tools to help them become better coaches, directors and musical staff.

Nov 20, 2008 - Over the Internet I thought this was just fantastic - all the sound was very clear - Kari takes a fun approach while teaching. I found this virtual coaching to be way more relaxing somehow. I think its not as intimdating as when the coach is standing right there in front of you. Kari picked up on a lot of things we could do better and explained how to do them. I will do this type of coaching for sure.

Nov 20, 2008 - Over the Internet What an opportunity to learn from such a gifted musician! It felt like Kari was in the same room as Tangerine. Personally, I learned valuable lessons in allowing my emotions to shine through by using visual aids to connect with the message in the songs we sang. This ended up changing the personality of the quartet and helped me sing with a more relaxed approach. I'd love to do this on a regular basis.

We've had Kari coach us a number of times while she's been in Calgary over the past three years. In that time, she has not only given us valuable tools, suggestions and insight as how to become better performers, she has enlightened us each as individual singers. Kari has a way of reaching each of us without hesitation, to motivate, to empower and to believe in ourselves. She is a delight to sing for and has an enormous repertoire to pull from as an accomplished educator, Director, and singer just to name a few. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with Kari and look forward to many more opportunities to come together in the future. Thanks again Kari for what you bring to us with the ease and grace that you do.
